Chester L. Shroyer Jr., 65, of Sandusky, died Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 19, 2008, in Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky, following a lengthy illness.

He was born July 28, 1943, in Fletcher, Ohio, and was a 1961 high school graduate of Jackson Center, Ohio. Chet was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War. He was employed for 34 years with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, where he was an investigating agent with the Division of Wildlife, District 2, retiring in 2002. Prior to this, he worked as a loan officer in California. He was a member of the American Legion and Eagles, both of Bellevue.

He is survived by his wife of 24 years, the former Consetta M. Halladay; seven children, Steven Shroyer of Oklahoma, Cherie (Brian) Butz of Bellevue, James “Todd” Shroyer of Urbana, Ohio, April (Donny) Wensinger III of Chicago, Consetta Leonard VI of Bellevue, and Natalie Shroyer and Michael Shroyer, both of Sandusky; seven grandchildren, Cody and Dallas Butz, Kaylib Shroyer, James IV and Vincent Wensinger, Consetta VII and Luciano Leonard; siblings, James (Dorty) Shroyer of Sidney, Ohio, Charlotte (Bill) Williams of St. John’s, Ohio, and Steven Shroyer of Minster, Ohio; stepfather, Richard E. Pulfer of Wapakoneta, Ohio; sister-in-law, Malinda Pulfer of Jackson Center; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his father, Chester L. Shroyer Sr.; mother, Ester “Jean” (Combs) Pulfer; brother, Richard “Rick” Pulfer Jr.; niece, Tiffany Jean Pulfer; and great-nephew, Christopher Noel Nielson Jr.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. Friday until military funeral service at 11 a.m. in Giffin Chapel of the Ohio Veterans Home, 3416 Columbus Ave., Sandusky; Chaplain Paul Birmingham will officiate. Graveside committal services will be 11 a.m. Monday in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, Ohio.
