Obituary of Cynthia Mae Bishop

“And into the forest I go, to lose my mind and find my soul.” ― John Muir

With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Cynthia Mae Bishop, beloved mother, sister, and community member, who left this earth on August 13, 2025.

Born on June 19, 1951, to LeRoy and Elaine Bishop, Cynthia became a talented artist, graduating from Columbus College of Art and Design. She created countless wildlife illustrations and publications for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and shared her artwork with family and friends.

Cynthia will be remembered for her love of the outdoors, including hunting, fishing, and mushroom hunting. She invested in fostering that love in others by teaching hunter education courses, leading Women in the Outdoors events, and serving as the first female President of the Big Walnut Conservation Club.

Throughout retirement, Cynthia enjoyed being a part of the Book Club at the Bellville Branch of the Mansfield/Richland County Public Library, a member of the North Liberty Garden Club, and serving dinners at the American Legion.

Cynthia is survived by her daughters, Erin (Tom) Callahan, Kari (Shawn) Lochary, and Kristin (Michael Kosch) Darling; grandson, Forrest Lochary; and siblings, Kathleen Anderson, Deborah (Thomas) Theaker, and Steven Bishop. She was preceded in death by her parents LeRoy and Elaine Bishop. Cynthia’s legacy continues through her loved ones, her artwork, and the lives she impacted throughout her lifetime.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday August, 20, 2025 from 5:00-7:00 P.M. followed by a service at 7:00 P.M. at Wappner Funeral Directors-Mansfield, 98 S Diamond St, Mansfield, OH 44902.
