Lawrence L. “Larry” Scholten, 78, of North Bloomfield, died Sunday morning, December 5th, at St. Elizabeth’s Select Specialty Hospital in Youngstown.
He was born November 14, 1943 in Corsica, SD, the oldest of five siblings, to the late Robert L., Sr. and Lela L. (Bussel) Scholten, and moved to the Warren area in 1952.
Larry earned a master’s degree from Michigan State University. He served in the United States Army and worked for the U.S. Forest Service before finally beginning a career with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife.

On November 18, 1978 Larry married the love of his life, the former Gladys Cogar, and in 1979 they had a son, David, their only child. The family spent most of their time together traveling to various U.S. National Parks.
Larry was an avid outdoorsman, backpacking through many Western mountain ranges as well as canoeing and portaging in Algonquin Provincial Park. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Larry was involved with organizations such as the American Legion, Buckeye Boys and Girls state and most of all, Boy Scouts.
Besides his son, David (Jessie), he leaves behind four siblings; Charles (Nancy), Jean (Regis), Robert (Sue), and Evert (Nancy); his beloved grandchildren, Meadow Mae and Parker Lane; many nieces and nephews; and his faithful golden retriever, Rocky.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Gladys.
A Memorial Service will be held 10:30 AM Wednesday, December 15th at the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home, 533 North Park Ave., Warren.
