Richard “Dick” Chittum, 66, of 906 Hawthorne Dr., St. Marys, died at 7:10 a.m., Friday, March 23, 2007, at the St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima. He was born April 4, 1940, in Dayton, a son of James and Ruth (Frey) Chittum, and they preceded him in death.
On Aug. 27, 1966, he married Barbara L. McVey, and she survives. He is also survived by a son, Roger (Stephanie) Chittum of Hebron; a granddaughter, Katherine Chittum of Hebron; two sisters, Patricia (Mac) McDivitt of Beavercreek, and Nancy (Charles) Allen of Vandalia.
He was a 1958 graduate of Belmont High School in Dayton, and received his bachelor of science degree from The Ohio State University. He worked for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources for 30 years, retiring as manager of the St. Marys Fish Hatchery. He was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St. Marys. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, and boating. He was also an ardent supporter of The Ohio State University Buckeyes.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 511 E. Spring St. in St. Marys, with the Rev. Anthony E. Cutcher, officiating. Burial will follow at the Gethsemane Cemetery in St. Marys.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m., Monday, and from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, at the Miller Funeral Home, Ohio 703 West Chapel in St. Marys.
