Rodney Blake McCune, 60, of 153 Scott Drive Newcomerstown, O. died Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at Union Hospital, He was born September 23, 1950 in Guernsey Co., O. to the late Jerry L. McCune and Marjorie J. (Ott) McCune of Newcomerstown ,
He was a 1969 Newcomerstown High School graduate. He was in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War where he served two tours. He was a Door Gunner and received a Purple Heart for injuries sustained. He retired from O.D.N. R. in 2001 where he worked in fish management as a unit leader. He was a Baptist by faith. He was a member of American Legion-Thomas C. Montgomery 431, Elks Lodge #1555 of Newcomerstown, and Newcomerstown Veterans Honor Guard. Rod was very proud of the time he spent serving his country and of the years he spent during his career at ODNR. Since his retirement, he has loved every single day he was given.
He is survived by his wife, Jan E. (Robinson) McCune whom he married on June 28, 1997. He is also survived by three sons, Kevin McCune of Uhrichsville, Brett McCune and Beau McCune both of Newcomerstown; stepson, Justin Alles of Columbus; four grandchildren, Dakota, Ezra, Francesca, and Sophia; three sisters, Cheryl Sweitzer and husband Richard of Newark, Laura Arnold and husband Kenny of West Lafayette, and Jodie Lehman and husband Carl of Newcomerstown; three brothers, Jeff McCune and wife Kathy and Scott McCune and wife Teresa, all of Newcomerstown, and Randy McCune and wife Debra of Port Washington; and Rod’s constant companion, Luke; many special friends, including his Elks brothers and several ex-coworkers at ODNR Fish and Wildlife.
Services will be Sunday, December 19, 2010 at 1:30 PM at Addy Funeral Home with Rev. Ronald Little officiating. Interment will take place at a later date. Visitation will be Saturday, December 18, 2010 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home, Military service will be conducted by Newcomerstown Veterans Honor Guard.
